In a one year league, Lidstrom is a pretty good pick. If there were keepers and stuff, which might be a fun thing to do next year, if this all goes well and we're actually organized going into it, then yeah, taking Lidstrom there would be a little high. But for the format of this league, he's fine going to the Isles there.
Now Mike Green, I still can't explain that one, but I'm reluctant to keep piling on the Coyotes. Maybe Green will develop into a more complete franchise defenseman in that cold Canadian air...

Oh, and Scotty, I know what you mean about not wnating to throw out 7/8M/yr contracts. I was feeling much the same about my pick. I think the trick is though, to make sure you're spending it on someone is really going to deliver. 7M to Iginla = good. 7M to Gaborik = bad. If you're going to get appropriate value for the draft spot you're in, then I think you have to accept that your very best player is going to be making some serious bank.

Paul, clearly you don't watch the Caps at all. Backstrom is the second-best player on the team and has put up 121 assists in his first two seasons (top-10 all-time). And he's only 21. If you're watching, you'd know that he's not soft and isn't afraid to go digging in the corners or kill penalties. Watch the Caps, you'll be amazed. Backstrom is clearly one of the best centers in the league. And if you don't think that building a team around a center is a good idea, just ask the Penguins.

Well done. And I agree. Backstrom is a star in the making who happens to be feeding some schmoe named Ovechkin more often than not. Hmmm, that strikes me as a solid situation.

i in fact probably watched a total of 10 capitals games this season, 2 regular season on tv, i went to one game when they played tampa bay, and i watched all 7 games of the penguins series. put backstrom on a line that doesnt have ovie on the LW and he has nowhere near the amount of assists. not only does ovie finish for him, he attracts so much attention it leaves a lot of ice room for backstrom who's in the middle. with players like mike richards and jarome iginla still there, in my opinion they were much better picks then backstrom. and i didn't realize the only purpose was for a one year league on NHL2010, the lidstrom pick was obviously solid then. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

At this juncture, as important as it is to get a solid center, I believe it is I who has the superior Backstrom. As excellent starting goaltenders are even rarer than excellent centers.
