You know Clare, if you weren't a gal, I'd mock you for being such a blatant HOMER

You know, you're right, the thread title is "Talkin' Trash" Shifting my focus to the Bruins accordingly... ![](http://gobananaz.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/broom_big.jpg)

So Cassie takes shit for taking one of the best goaltenders in the league -a young Olympic gold winning goaltender- and no one speaks up when Dom, who clearly is taking over the Mike Milbury mantle, picks up a 39 year old defenseman to base his franchise on?

So Cassie takes shit for taking one of the best goaltenders in the league -a young Olympic gold winning goaltender... Thanks for reminding me. Congratulations to Cassie for taking the third best goaltender in the Atlantic Division 3rd overall. Fitting decision for the Lightning! P.S. Dom's defenseman is one of the greatest of all time. Also someone more valuable than Lundqvist.

Third best? I'm guessing you are picking your boy Uncle Daddy, and who else? That day-glo smile dork flower? That kid is a hack. Hasn't carried a team yet.
And don't get me wrong, I think Lidstrom will go down in history as the second greatest defenseman of all time. I love Nik, I just wouldn't start a franchise with a guy who has one foot in the "grave." You are building a franchise from scratch so you pick a guy who will be gone after one, maybe two seasons tops?

This isn't a keeper league...so what if he's got 1-2 years left? Third best? I'm guessing you are picking your boy Uncle Daddy, and who else? That day-glo smile dork flower? That kid is a hack. Hasn't carried a team yet. Who's got the rings? I ask you, who's got the rings? When it's all said and done, it's not about oversized leg pads, it's all about the rings. P.S. Lundqvist has a higher cap than both of these guys too - by at least a million. CAP MANAGEMENT~! BUT SERIOUSLY: If you're going to go goalie 3rd overall, great. I get that. Franchise goalies are rare. I just think the pick should be for the best one available instead of trying to outsmart everyone else like Al Davis tried to with Heyward-Bey in the top 10 in this year's NFL Draft.

For all intents and purposes, the teams will be judged on a one-year basis. (The one area where youth might be considered more valuable is if we can integrate that panel of experts idea I'm floating around)
I REALLY apologize if there's any confusion on the point.

I would talk smack, but seeing as how I'm the Blues rep, that's a bit hard. ![](http://cdn1.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/28078/roflbot5muptz4.jpg) That's really the best I can do, unless I rag on the BJ's rep...

If he didn't go then - and he was still around - I would have taken Backstrom at 20. Incredibly underrated, all he does is put up points at a cost-efficient cap hit.
I admit, I'm having a tough time figuring who I want in a Blueshirt. I'm not about to pull a Sather and give out seven, eight million dollar contracts.

Awww so you're not going to pick up Gomez for old time's sake? Kind of a bummer. Backstrom is a guy who could put up 80-90 points this season and at an incredibly low cap hit. Maybe #14 was slightly early but I think it's a solid pick. It never hurts to get a guy in his contract year.
