I think before we get much further through the draft, we need to talk about where we are going with this. Are we trying to build the best possible franchise, are we trying to build the best rotisserie squad in terms of numbers, are we talking about the best video game team?
Outside of the first round or so, then you start building for a purpose - and what's the purpose? Don't get me wrong, I'm all in for this - whichever the purpose - but I would like to know if I want to draft for numbers, excitement or win-at-all costs (Devils hockey). ...

Well, here's the things I'm certain about:
An NHL 2010 simulation
A simple fantasy hockey style analysis
I'm going to see if we can get a "board of experts" to share their thoughts on the teams. This will allow for subjectivity/grit/defensive prowess to be relevant.
And, if possible, find a good way to judge the teams based on Hockey Numbers/Behind the Net-type analysis.
Since we're going to spend a lot of time on this, I figure: why not look at it from a bunch of different perspectives? My advice would be to draft your team with the "big picture" in mind.
Did that help? I'll hash out more of the details tonight.

So in other words we're building for this year, and not for the future?
I think that makes a big difference.
Also I don't know if I ever saw the answer, but are we taking salary cap into account?

Yes we're using a $57 million salary cap. Unsigned free agents will use their 2008 salaries rounded down to the nearest whole number. So if someone wants Zubov, his cap hit is $5 million.
